I grew up as a lover of music thanks to my parents. Some type of music was always playing in our home and that shaped my taste in music as I became an adult.
My Papa was more into funk/soul — Lionel Ritchie, Marvin Gaye, Billy Ocean, Kool N The Gang, Earth Wind and Fire … you get the picture.
My Mama’s taste was more along the lines of Fela Kuti and Miriam Makeba, to Smokies, Abba, and Kassav.
Of course, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Bob Marley federated everyone at home and were staples.
Today as an adult, music still plays a huge role in my life. I listen to music A LOT, and my taste in music has evolved with the times and has been influenced by the different experiences that have shaped my life. I listen to a wide variety of genres but (Neo)Soul and Reggae are very near and dear to my heart. All Jill Scott, Corinne Bailey Rae, Maxwell, and of course Sade albums remain my gold star albums amongst many other pretty amazing albums and artists which I listen to as well. Unfortunately, the kind of music made today doesn’t really appeal to me so I listen to very little of it, but for a handful of musicians.
In that light, I will be sharing with you some of the music found on my playlist. I’ll begin with my favourite genre – Neo-soul/Soul. I listen to these artists all the time and many many more like them, and this is just a snapshot of what my playlist looks like. I am eager to hear what you think of it and maybe share some of your favourite music as well.

That’s all for now but I will be bringing more of my kind of music in subsequent posts.
